Fun and funny are both adjectives (fun can also be a noun) but they mean very different things. This is a common mistake for English learners.
So, what’s the difference?
Funny=makes you laugh
Fun= is something you enjoy, you have a good time.
A movie is funny because it makes you laugh.
A movie cannot be fun.
A book is funny because it makes you laugh.
A book cannot be fun.
A clown can be funny because he does tricks and makes you laugh.
A clown cannot be fun.
BUT A person can be both fun and funny.
Kevin is funny because he tells a lot of jokes.
Kevin is fun because he is social and likes to go out with his friend to have a good time.
So…ready to take a quiz??

Earlier I said that fun can be used as a noun. Here are some examples:
I had a lot of fun last night at the party! Here, fun means enjoyment
I love going to the movies with Kaleb, he is so much fun! Here, we are describing the behavior of a person. His personal characteristic is fun. Just like he could be outgoing, social, and fun.
So are you fun or funny? or both?! 🙂
